I recently read a book called Mountains Beyond Mountains... It is about a man who founded an organization called Partners in Health. The organization works to bring modern medical care to poor communities in nine countries around the world (including Haiti). The founder started his organization in a community in Haiti. Partners in Health has been one of the largest health care providers in rural Haiti. "While earthquakes are acts of nature, extreme vulnerability to earthquakes is manmade," quotes the author Tracy Kidder. Check out the article he wrote, A Country Without a Net. If you want to learn more check out the book... it's sad but it's also inspiring how one person could make such a difference to the poor. The part that kind of makes me a little frustrated is Haiti was a poor nation BEFORE the earth quake where was all of the help before? It wasn't a secret... Now the whole world wants to help... Don't get me wrong I think it's beautiful that everyone is gathering together to help... I just can't help the thought that it's a little " late". Either way I donated what I could and my prayers are with the people of Haiti.
